With over 25 years of experience in rural development and governance, Tenzin Chophel currently serves as the Dzongdag (Governor) of Chhukha Dzongkhag, leading initiatives in public service delivery, infrastructure development, and community empowerment. Previously, he served as Dzongdag of Gasa Dzongkhag, where he focused on overcoming the challenges of remote governance through innovative solutions that ensured equitable access to resources and services.
Before his current roles, Tenzin Chophel worked as Director of Directorate Services in the Ministry of Health, overseeing administration, HR, finance, ICT, and legal services. His international experience includes two years as a Governance Adviser in Lao PDR, where he improved administrative efficiency and public service delivery. As Chief Policy Analyst and Planning Strategist in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests for a decade, he managed planning, budgeting, and evaluation of national and international projects.
Tenzin Chophel holds a Master’s degree in Natural Resource Management from the University of Edinburgh and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Geography from the University of Delhi. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to advancing Bhutan’s development through innovative leadership and strategic governance.
