On 3rd July, 2018, the Hon’ble Home Minister Dawa Gyaltshen handed over 20 Kubota Power tillers and 9 Mini Power tillers to the 11 Gewogs of Chhukha Dzongkhag. The program was attended by Venerable Lam Neten, Dasho Dzongdag, Dasho Dzongrab, regional heads, Gups, Mangmis and sector heads..
The 29 power tillers received was in addition to the 11 number of Yanmar Power tillers that the Dzongkhag received in the FY 2015-2016. As per the record maintained by Dzongkhag Agriculture Sector, most of the Gewog power tillers were great value to the Gewogs. A total of more than 207 acres of land was ploughed with about more than Nu. 285,000/- revenue generated through the hire of the machines in the Gewogs which was deposited to the FMCL. However, Getana and Phuentsholing could not operate due to lack of operators and difficult terrains as informed by Gewog Administrations. Getana Gewog has also requested for mini-power tiller in replacement.
The main objectives of the Power tiller distribution/ hiring are to mitigate farm labour shortage, optimize land utilization/commercialization and to motivate youths in mechanised farming.
The people of Chhukha are grateful to the Royal Government of Bhutan and Government of Japan for the support thus provided.
